Manesse Codex Women’s Headwear 1304-1340

This class was given at Atlantian Winter University 2011. As with most of my classes, this started out as research for myself. I set out to analyze just what pieces of headwear were appropriate for the period. As soon as I discovered how many there were and how simple they are to make, I thought, “Wow, I’ve got to share this with a the people who don’t have a lot of time and money to spend on garb!”

Caveat: This class is not meant to show you period techniques for all the headwear. That class would be incredibly long! Rather this class is meant to give you a baseline of knowledge from which you can do your own research. I’ve made class samples to display the options that are available to wear with a simple German cote from the early 14th century.

We should all strive to look more period if we can so…Ladies, cover your heads!
